SBI PO Syllabus and Exam Pattern: The State Bank of India (SBI) Probationary Officer (PO) examination is a highly esteemed and competitive recruitment process conducted by the State Bank of India, one of India’s largest public sector banks. The primary objective of this examination is to select candidates for the role of probationary officer, which is an entry-level managerial position within the bank.

The SBI PO examination comprises three main stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Group Discussion and Interview: Upon successfully clearing these stages, candidates are appointed as probationary officers in various SBI branches across India.

The SBI PO exam is conducted in three phases.

  • Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
  • Phase 2: Main Examination
  • Phase 3: Interview & Group Exercise

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern 

Here are some key points about the SBI PO Prelims exam pattern:

  • The SBI PO prelims exam is based on objective type or multiple type questions and will be conducted in online mode.
  • The SBI PO Prelims exam consists of three sections, which are: English language, numerical ability, and reasoning ability.
  • There will be a total of 100 questions for 100 marks, and the duration of the examination will be 60 minutes.
  • There will be no sectional cutoff. There will be only an overall cutoff on the SBI PO Prelims exam.
  • Each question carries one mark, and there will be 0.25 marks deducted for every question attempted wrongly by a candidate.
  • The question paper shall be in English and Hindi (bilingual). An English-language paper has to be attempted in English.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern 

Here are some key points about the SBI PO Mains exam pattern:

  • Both objective-type and descriptive-type examinations will be conducted in online mode.
  • The SBI PO main exam will be comprised of objective and descriptive sections.
  • The objective paper consists of four sections, which are reasoning and computer aptitude; data analysis and interpretation; general/economy/banking awareness; and English language.
  • The duration of the objective type test will be 3 hours, consisting of 4 sections for 200 marks. The objective will have separate timing for every section.
  • The descriptive paper consists of one section with two questions. One letter is written and one is easy to write.
  • The duration of the descriptive test will be 30 minutes with 2 questions for 50 marks. It will be a test of the English language.
  • A candidate needs to score passing marks in the descriptive test as well as qualify for the sbi po exam.
  • There will be no sectional cutoff. There will be only an overall cutoff on the SBI PO Prelims exam.
  • The question paper shall be in English and Hindi (bilingual). An English-language paper has to be attempted in English.
