MPSC New Exam Pattern
The MPSC state service examination is conducted in three phases.
- Phase 1: Preliminary Examination (MCQ or Objective type question)
- Phase 2: Mains Examination (Subjective)
- Phase 3: Personality Test (Interview)
MPSC Preliminary Exam Pattern
Here are some important key points about the MPSC preliminary question paper pattern:
- The preliminary exam consists of two papers of the objective type, each worth 200 marks (a total of 400 marks), and is two hours in duration. Candidates must take both papers.
- Both question papers will be of the objective (MCQ) kind.
- The mode of the exam will be offline (pen and paper).
- There is also a 1/4 negative mark for every wrong answer.
- The General Studies Paper II of the State Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with a minimum qualifying mark fixed at 33%.
- For the purpose of evaluation, it is mandatory for the candidates to appear in both papers of the state service preliminary examination. As a result, the candidate will be disqualified if he or she fails to appear in both the state service preliminary examination and the main examination.
- The question paper shall be in Marathi and English.

MPSC Mains Exam Pattern
Here are some important key points about the MPSC main question paper pattern:
- There are two types of papers in the MPSC mains: qualifying papers and papers that will be counted for merit formation.
- The former part consists of two language exams: one for the compulsory Marathi language and the other for the compulsory English language. The latter part will consist of seven papers, which are one easy, four general studies, and two optional papers.
- The main exam will include both simple writing and multiple-choice questions.
- The sum of the totals of all papers and the score secured in the direct interview will be used for the student’s ranking.
- The main examination questions are of the descriptive variety, and you must answer twenty questions on each paper.
- The question paper shall be in Marathi and English.
- The mode of the exams will be offline (pen and paper).

The official name for this stage of the examination is the personality test. There are 275 marks for this stage alone. This is one of the most important parts of the exam because it is where candidates are tested to see if they are mentally ready for such a high-level position, and their mindset about the services is also examined here. After this, the candidates are chosen based on the merit list and provided with a ranking in the administration of Maharashtra.
